The narrative shifts focus to Noah, Zed’s friend, who is transported to the same world but lands in Neotopia. He is taken in by Carter and his wife, becoming close to their son Gale and Gale’s childhood friends Aisha and Keith. Noah assists Carter and the townspeople in constructing a park for local children. Upon returning from military service, Gale discovers that Carter concealed Noah’s presence from the authorities. Deeming this concealment a violation of Neotopia’s Absolute Law, Gale executes his father, leaving Noah in a state of shock.
