Businessman Mitsuo Tanabe suffers from panic disorder triggered by camera flashes, causing him to relive traumatic memories of post-war Tokyo. After being referred to Dr. Irabu, Mitsuo undergoes treatment involving light sensitivity management and confronts his resistance to retiring from his powerful role. During a drive in Irabu’s Porsche, Mitsuo experiences vivid flashbacks to his youth as a soldier, a journalist, and a father watching the first Shinkansen service. These moments help him realize he has been living in the past. As his visions of the past fade and he appears in his modern form with gray hair, Mitsuo accepts that times have changed. He subsequently holds a press conference to announce his retirement, ending his struggle with the disorder and media harassment.
