During a visit to a small town, Louie and his companions learn of a fighting tournament featuring Conrad and Renard. Conrad claims he will win the first prize to give as a wedding gift to Melissa. Consequently, Louie is once again tasked with defending Melissa's honor in the competition. Simultaneously, Merrill overhears a conspiracy to assassinate the tournament sponsor. Her discovery draws the attention of the conspirators, leading to a narrow escape that leaves her trapped at the bottom of a well. With time running out, Merrill must devise a method to send a warning message to others before she is discovered or harmed by the plotters who are now hunting for her.
