Three years after his father's death, nine-year-old Goro Honda attempts to join Little League Baseball. He returns to the Mifune Dolphins field, only to discover the roster has dwindled to five players, threatening the team's existence. Compounding the crisis, the city has granted the soccer club permission to take full control of the facility. Although his coach advises him to transfer to the city's other Little League squad, Goro remains determined to play for the Dolphins. Consequently, he begins recruiting his classmates to join the team and save it from folding.
