The Detective Boys observe Detective Chiba purchasing a large quantity of food at a convenience store and decide to follow him. They track him to a standard apartment building, initially assuming he is visiting a friend. However, Conan realizes the building is newly constructed and deduces that Chiba is actually conducting a stakeout. As Conan investigates further, he discovers Detective Takagi is also present at the location. The Detective Boys request permission to wait inside until a doctor arrives to pick them up. During this time, they learn that the purpose of the stakeout is to investigate the jewelry store robbery and murder that occurred the previous week.
