The Detective Boys play Yaiba trading cards in a bookstore, observed by Conan, Haibara, Ayumi, and Professor Agasa. Two silent figures, Naoto Masaki and Tsukasa Nitta, join them. Nitta is respected for winning with cheap cards, while expert Daigo Zaizen arrives to win with expensive ones. After a brief argument, they agree to play. Daigo leaves to use the restroom, instructing his attendant Osamu Kuno to guard his luxury cards. Tsukasa suggests everyone leave the table to avoid accusations. As people turn away, a bookshelf behind Naoto falls. A fire alarm triggers panic, but the owner declares it a hoax. Upon returning, they find Naoto crushed and dead under the fallen shelf. Professor Agasa examines the body and confirms the death.
