Kogoro, Ran, and Conan attend the ropeway opening ceremony atop a giant Goddess Statue built by Doumouto Guze. Rumors of a curse prompt Kogoro to disprove them. On opening day, Doumouto vanishes from the cart and is later found dead on the statue's hand. Conan solves the impossible crime by inspecting a nearby house incinerator. He reveals the hostess murdered Doumouto using his own disappearing trick, which he intended to use to ruin newspaper reputations and disprove the curse. The culprit confesses that Doumouto divorced her mother, leaving her in debt, and caused her brother's death by forcing workers to rush the ropeway construction.
