Conan deduces Eisuke owns the cell phone due to his inexperience, leading police to suspect his brother-in-law Shigehide Kiriya. Eisuke confesses to stabbing his fiancée twelve years ago, but evidence reveals Shigehide bludgeoned her to death after she planned to marry him for money. Tomoko discovered Eisuke via her phone and blackmailed Shigehide, motivating his murder. Shigehide admits to the crime upon finding Tomoko's phone. Later, Ran checks Conan's dropped cell phone in the car to verify if a message to Shinichi is present.
