Conan, Ran, and Kogorou visit the mythical village of Izumo, where they encounter Eiko Ezumi, a shrine employee engaged to Kouji Wanibuchi, a businessman and company president. They also meet Eiko’s childhood friend, Ryousuke Fukuma, after a tense initial interaction with Kogorou. The following day, Kouji is discovered dead, and his Sword of the Eight-Headed Snake is missing. Police identify four suspects: Eiko, Ryousuke, Takehiko Fujie, and Kazuya Ishitobi. Conan finds inconsistencies in the alibis provided by Eiko and Ryousuke, prompting him to take Ran to independently verify their accounts of the events surrounding the murder.
