Osamu Kizuka, a colleague of the victim's husband Akira Takaoka, finds hostess Hiroko Inoue dead in her home. Kizuka had a scheduled meeting with Takaoka that day, which led him to discover the body. During the investigation by Kogoro and Conan, police determine the death resulted from a random burglary. This conclusion relies on Takaoka's alibi, which confirms he was in Fukushima Prefecture at the time of Inoue's death, effectively clearing him of suspicion.
