TV producers Shogo Somei and Maiko Kazumi ask Kogoro to star in his own program, agreeing to meet the next day. Somei picks up Kogoro, Ran, and Conan to visit manager Raisaku Nakame on the twentieth floor. Somei mentions Nakame’s recent suicidal talk, suggesting suicide. The apartment manager unlocks the door chain, allowing entry to find Nakame dead from poisoned coffee. Police suspect murder, theorizing the killer gave the coffee, left, and instructed Nakame to secure the door. Conan analyzes coffee stains, concluding the killer was present before death and reattached the chain. Authorities suspect Somei tampered with the scene to conceal the murder method.
