Kogoro Mori is invited by a theater manager to investigate unusual events. Conan independently investigates and overhears actor Hiroshi Komazuka planning to swap a fake rapier for a real one to kill fellow actor Robert Banno during a sword fight scene. Komazuka discovers Conan listening and traps him inside a sarcophagus prop in the storage room. Meanwhile, Robert Banno sets an electrical trap on stage targeting actor Atsushi Yabuki. Upon learning the rapier has been switched, Robert decides to pursue Yabuki to swap roles and commit the murder personally. Yabuki agrees to the switch. As Robert departs, Yabuki reveals his own counter-plan to poison the wine Komazuka intends to drink during the performance.
