The effects of the APTX 4869 antidote fade, prompting Shinichi to transform back into Conan. Ran clings to him, but Haibara tranquilizes her, allowing Shinichi to complete the change unnoticed. Later, the Detective Boys face a stranded situation when Professor Agasa’s car runs out of gas on a mountain. Goki Sudo passes by but declines to assist. An explosion subsequently occurs at Sudo’s home, resulting in his death. Police attribute the incident to a lit cigarette igniting spilled gasoline. However, Conan observes inconsistencies in the account of Sudo’s fiancée, Ena Ginbayashi. He determines that Sudo was not smoking and concludes that Ena orchestrated the explosion as a calculated murder.
