Sonoko invites Ran and Conan to support her senior, Takao Gotou, who collapses from poisoning during a match. Sonoko becomes the prime suspect after poison is discovered on her glove. Conan tranquilizes her and identifies the culprit as tennis team captain Fumihiro Azuma. Azuma used a poisoned glove to high-five Gotou, transferring the toxin to his hand. This explains the poison found in Gotou's drink, towel, and Sonoko's glove. Gotou ingested the poison by licking his fingers while adjusting his racquet grip. Evidence included poison on Azuma's glove, hidden in a tennis ball. Azuma confessed that Gotou had intentionally injured him to steal his competition spot, causing Azuma to lose his sponsors and scholarship.
