Kogoro, Conan, and Ran meet lawyer Eva Kaden to discuss Kogoro's upcoming lecture commemorating the renewal of Hishida Hall, scheduled for the next day. Eri is set to participate in the second half of the talk event. While heading home, Eri drops part of a file, which Conan helps her retrieve. The document contains a newspaper article regarding the murder of a university professor. The following day, before the lecture begins, Kogoro is drinking wine to boost the economy when Junko Hishida, the hall's owner, and Yusaku Ujimori, the manager, visit the dressing room to greet him.
