The group resumes their search for food and water, with Shingo and Chako joining Kaoru, who eventually separates to find fruit and obsidian. Bell and Sharla struggle to create fire, with Bell persisting until his hands bleed. Meanwhile, Luna, Menori, and Howard chase a kangaroo-like creature before being pursued by a giant lizard. They escape into a tree near a lake, where an elephantine creature with a long tongue attempts to reach the leaves but fails. Howard screams in fear, driving the creature away. Determined to navigate, Luna and Menori decide to climb a distant mountain to regain their bearings, accepting they will not return to the shuttle before nightfall, with Howard accompanying them.
