ANBU agents capture Hanare, a spy from the Hidden Lock Village in the Land of Key, while she is disguised as a musician. Her interrogation fails, leading to a gradual revelation of her history and connection to Kakashi. Team 7 observes the pair, mistakenly believing they are dating. Tensions rise when the Lock Village holds a Leaf Village ninja hostage, resulting in an exchange for Hanare. During the subsequent chase, Hanare’s unique abilities are exposed. Kakashi ultimately allows her to escape. The episode opens with a musician entertaining Konoha ninja, a sight that triggers this flashback regarding Hanare.
