Shikamaru chases Gengo through Fushuu Castle, where Gengo’s influence over Sai, Roh, and Hinoko weakens as their battle with Ino, Choji, and Temari continues. Gengo traps Shikamaru in a dark room to neutralize his shadow techniques and exploit his hearing with a jutsu. He reveals his past with Zabuza and his plan to infiltrate hidden villages to cause chaos. Ino enters Sai’s mind to sever Gengo’s control and warns of the trap. Gengo’s technique manifests Shikamaru’s inner darkness, but thoughts of Naruto protect him. When Temari and the others arrive, Shikamaru directs Roh and Hinoko to complete their mission. They neutralize Gengo’s jutsu and arrest him. Afterward, Shikamaru and Sai ask Temari and Ino on dates.
