Natsume encounters a shrine god disguised as an elderly woman and is compelled to help her return a mirror to a youkai believed to cause disaster. The youkai is revealed to be Reiko, Natsume's grandmother, whom the shrine god had mistaken for a monster. Reiko had originally lent the mirror to the shrine god to save an old tree, but the two separated after Reiko discovered the elderly woman was actually a youkai.
