O-Hoshisama no Rail

A young Japanese actress recalls her childhood during the war in Korea. Her father leaves to fight, her baby sister Miko dies from typhoid, and her Korean maid Ohana is dismissed after an incident that nearly costs Chiko her life. Over time, Chiko becomes aware of the Japanese dominance and the mistreatment of Koreans. After the war ends, the Japanese are expelled, and Chiko's family becomes unwelcome. When the Russians arrive, they destroy all photographs to avoid suspicion, including one of Miko. The family flees across the 38th Parallel with a group of others seeking freedom, guided by the North Star. On their journey, they encounter a Korean man willing to assist them despite the Japanese having killed his family.
