Ep. 2: Tetsu joins the Shinsengumi and envies the watcher role while reflecting on his humanity.

Amidst a heavy downpour outside the dojo, Tetsu remembers Okita’s question about sacrificing his humanity for vengeance. As the rain subsides, Hijikata formally accepts Tetsu into the Shinsengumi. Tetsu praises housekeeper Ayumu Yamazaki for her cooking before meeting unit captains Sanosuke Harada and Shinpachi Nagakura. He feels reluctant to serve as Hijikata’s page. Meanwhile, watcher Susumu Yamazaki reports on the Choushuu clan’s revolutionary activities against the Shogunate. Tetsu becomes jealous of Susumu and expresses a desire to become a watcher rather than remain a page.
