Ep. 5: Tetsu meets Saya and learns of her tragic past while Yamanami visits

First Vice Commander Keisuke Yamanami visits and observes Tetsu favoring him over Hijikata. While buying groceries for Ayumu, Tetsu encounters a mute girl who shyly introduces herself as Saya. He recalls his father’s advice that tossing a coin from a distance increases the likelihood of wishes being granted. Saya reveals her parents were murdered, prompting Tetsu to empathize with her loss. However, she flees in tears after Tetsu vows to avenge her parents. Meanwhile, Yamanami argues that Tetsu should remain a page, whereas Kondou believes he deserves his own sword and uniform.
