Susumu learns of a wildfire and a noodle vendor’s murder. Tetsu skips chores to spar with Sanosuke and Shinpachi before Heisuke Toudou, the eighth unit captain, arrives excitedly. Hijikata suspects Choushuu clan leader Toshimaro Yoshida of the recent crimes. Hajime Saitou, the third unit captain, detects a dark spiritual aura within Tetsu. Saitou encounters zombies during a night patrol. Susumu, disguised as a ninja, attacks and stops sorcerer Kamuzune Furube from resurrecting the undead.
