Eren and Reiji confront assassins sent by the Scythe Master, utilizing techniques from Eren’s initial training of Reiji to defeat phantoms. With assistance from Cal’s pocket watch, Reiji overcomes his foes, allowing Eren to finally kill the Scythe Master. The pair escapes Japan, prompting McGwire to realize Inferno’s defeat while assigning a final task to kill Reiji. Seeking answers about Reiji’s past, they travel to Mongolia, arriving at a field of Oxytropis flowers. There, an unidentified assassin silently shoots Reiji, who accepts his fate as his mission concludes. Immediately after, Ein consumes a poisonous leaf from the flowers to commit suicide, fulfilling the tragic end hinted at throughout their journey.
