Ash requests a battle from Hapu, who refuses angrily. Gladion arrives on Poni Island intending to meet Tapu Fini. While conversing with Lillie, Gladion mentions their father, leading the siblings to agree to a confrontation. Before the fight starts, Ash interrupts the encounter after being kicked onto the island by Hapu’s Mudsdale. He immediately challenges Gladion to a Pokémon battle. The match features Ash’s Midnight Lycanroc against Gladion’s Dusk Lycanroc, marking a direct clash between the two rival trainers and their respective rock-type Pokémon.
