Lacking an Island Challenge on Poni Island, Ash and Kiawe seek to battle Island Guardian Tapu Fini at the Ruins of Hope. When Tapu Fini fails to appear, the two engage in a sparring match to kill time. This action provokes Tapu Fini, who captures Ash and his Pokémon. A mysterious old man informs Kiawe that Ash can only be freed by appeasing the guardian. Kiawe must retrieve a specific item from Tapu Lele on Akala Island and return to Poni Island before a strict time limit expires.
