After Ash enrolls in an Alola Pokémon School, his peers host a welcome party featuring three contests. He competes in a balloon-popping game with Sophocles and Togedemaru, a land-and-water race against Lana’s Popplio, and a Tauros race with Kiawe. Professor Kukui then initiates a Pokémon battle, but Tapu Koko intervenes to challenge Ash directly. The legendary Pokémon urges Ash to attempt his first Z-Move, Gigavolt Havoc. During the execution, Pikachu releases a massive electrical surge that causes Ash’s Z-Crystal to shatter. Consequently, Ash resolves to complete an island challenge trial to obtain a replacement Z-Crystal.
