Professor Kukui provides Ash with a unique Pokédex powered by the Pokémon Rotom to aid his journey in the Alola region. Meanwhile, Team Rocket begins their activities in Alola, where their initial encounter with a mysterious Mimikyu causes Meowth to experience a terrifying nightmare. Mimikyu subsequently chooses to fight for Team Rocket against Ash and his classmates, but the situation escalates when a large Bewear abducts Jessie and James. Although Ash feels regret for not capturing Mimikyu, he quickly moves forward to explore the area and seek out new Pokémon to add to his collection.
