While traveling toward Anistar City, Ash and his companions are captured by a Team Rocket pit trap, prompting Pikachu to blast them off. The ground then collapses, dropping the group into an abandoned subway tunnel. This setting triggers a memory for Bonnie regarding her first meeting with Bunnelby in Lumiose City. Bunnelby had been living in an old subway car with other Pokemon but faced threats from a territorial Diggersby. Clemont provided battle advice that allowed Bunnelby to defeat Diggersby and protect their home. Later, the group worked together to move the train car to safety. Although Clemont and Bunnelby eventually parted ways, Bunnelby’s friends encouraged it to join Ash, leading to its current status as a companion.
