Becky and Ermengarde are upset by the Headmistress's hostility, while Lottie leads the student body, excluding Lavinia, Jessie, and Gertrude, in silent support for Sara. Meanwhile, Sara tends the classroom fire, Molly charges for cups and plates, and James sends Becky to shop at Covent Garden. Ram Dass and Thomas plan their next steps, and Peter joins Becky on a smuggling trip. Ermengarde confronts Lavinia about her treatment of Sara, discovering the collusion between Lavinia and the Headmistress.
