Kaoru recovers from the spring water provided by Kenshin and Jinpu. The pair travels to Nikko to locate a hidden jade crest before the Ryu Myaku arrives. Meanwhile, Sanosuke and Tsunan discover a book filled with useful but difficult clues. They locate the author to clarify the context, allowing them to piece together hints that reveal the water clan's plans. Kenshin and Jinpu reach Nikko only to find Reisui possesses the crest. Reisui traps them in a feng shui illusion, which they successfully overcome. Sanosuke later finds the duo and reveals that the Ryu Myaku has altered their course toward Senjogahara.
