Five Leaves abducts the Kanou house heir, but the patriarch pays only half the ransom and requests the hostage’s secret execution due to his illegitimate birth. Upon learning this truth, Ichi orders the youth’s immediate release, leading Masa to suspect Ichi was once kidnapped himself. Jin, an old acquaintance of Souji, arrives seeking Seinoshin and later confronts Ichi, claiming to be Seinoshin of Bakuro before Masa intervenes. Masa later reveals to Ichi that he surrendered his leadership to his brother to address personal weaknesses and now finds purpose in Five Leaves. Finally, Masa questions Souji about Ichi, prompting the elder to recount a past incident where he ordered Ichi to execute a subordinate who had offended another gang member.
