Senkichi provides funds to Denshichi to settle a debt, yet Denshichi insists more is owed due to Sengorou of Yatsua requiring Senkichi's lock-picking abilities. Souji’s former friend Toku arrives to warn that Sengorou is heading to Edo. While the group urges Masa to leave for his home to treat his Edo sickness, he refuses to stay away. Denshichi questions Senkichi about the money’s origin and learns it came from Souji. He then confronts Souji for additional funds. Masa intervenes to protect Souji, allowing Senkichi to sneak up and kill Denshichi. Later, Ichi visits Souji’s residence to check on Masa, and Souji recognizes him from their past.
