Sakuta informs Mai and Nodoka that Kaede suffers from dissociative amnesia caused by cyberbullying, a trauma that also led their mother to a mental breakdown and left Sakuta with chest scars. Kaede collapses after reading a note in a book loaned to Kotomi, causing her past recollections to return while threatening her current life. The Azusagawa siblings attempt to visit her school, but Kaede’s trauma resurfaces upon seeing other students. They instead take her to a zoo to lift her spirits before returning to the empty school at night. Comforted by the outing, Kaede declares she is ready to attend school again. However, the following morning, her old personality has returned at the expense of her recent memories.
