Ep. 1: Maka and Soul seek a witch soul to complete Soul's transformation into a Death Scythe.

Meister Maka Albarn and weapon partner Soul Eater have gathered 99 kishin souls, which are corrupt souls from weapon meisters and death scythes that consumed human souls. To transform Soul into a Death Scythe, they require a witch's soul. The pair hunt for the witch Blair, who often outsmarts them and attempts to seduce Soul. During a confrontation, Soul deceives Blair by pretending to want to abandon Maka and become her weapon, enabling Maka to seize her soul. However, consuming the soul yields no results because Blair is actually a magical cat who had simply lost one of her nine souls. As punishment for this error, Lord Death confiscates all the collected souls, forcing Maka and Soul to restart their quest from zero.
