Ep. 5: Frieren and companions hunt an Einsam monster and recruit Stark for a dragon hunt
Frieren reflects on Fern’s lifespan as they travel, entering a village where residents vanish after seeing ghosts of loved ones. Frieren identifies an Einsam, a monster using illusion magic that traps victims who cannot attack the apparitions. Fern nearly falls victim to Heiter’s ghost, but Frieren destroys Himmel’s illusion, revealing and allowing Fern to defeat the creature. Later, Frieren plans to slay a dragon for its grimoire and seeks Stark, a student of Eisen who lives nearby. Stark admits he never killed a monster and only won a famous staring contest through fear-induced paralysis. Frieren gives him until morning to decide, confident that his training allows him to cut through solid rock, despite Fern’s doubts about his combat capability.
