Twenty days before the Impossible Mission, Erna tries to kill Klaus using her perceived bad luck curse. She believes this trait makes her an effective assassin while preventing close relationships. In town, she attempts to cause accidents, but Klaus evades them all. He reveals he understands her ability, explaining that her misfortune stems from subconscious self-punishment for her family’s death in a fire, rather than actual supernatural luck. Klaus praises her, noting the accidents would have harmed others. Both are then kidnapped, but Klaus deduces Lamplight orchestrated the attack. Lamplight defeats the kidnappers and assures Erna they can handle her misfortune. Encouraged by this support, Erna begins to feel more comfortable with the group.
