In the summer of 2010, self-proclaimed mad scientist Rintar? Okabe visits Doctor Nakabachi's time travel seminar with Mayuri Shiina. He meets Kurisu Makise, who claims he met her 15 minutes ago. After leaving, Okabe receives a scrambled video message on his phone. He then hears a scream and finds Kurisu dead in a pool of blood. He texts his lab member, Itaru "Daru" Hashida, but feels a strange sensation and finds the street deserted. A satellite has crashed into the building he was in. Daru later informs Okabe that the seminar was cancelled. Okabe discovers the text he sent was received a week prior, and he encounters a living Kurisu.
