EP 1Okabe attends a seminar, witnesses a murder, and experiences a timeline shift involving a crashed satellite.
Apr 6, 2011In the summer of 2010, self-proclaimed mad scientist Rintar? Okabe visits Doctor Nakabachi's time travel seminar with Mayuri Shiina. He meets Kurisu Makise, who claims he met her 15 minutes ago. After leaving, Okabe receives a scrambled video message on his phone. He then hears a scream and finds Kurisu dead in a pool of blood. He texts his lab member, Itaru "Daru" Hashida, but feels a strange sensation and finds the street deserted. A satellite has crashed into the building he was in. Daru later informs Okabe that the seminar was cancelled. Okabe discovers the text he sent was received a week prior, and he encounters a living Kurisu.
EP 2Okabe encounters Kurisu alive and meets Suzuha while investigating John Titor's reappearance and the IBN 5100.
Apr 13, 2011Okabe is shocked to find Kurisu alive, only to be embarrassed by her during a time travel lecture. He purchases supplies from Ruka Urushibara and meets Suzuha Amane, who works part-time at his landlord Y?go "Mr. Braun" Tenn?ji's electronics shop. Okabe discovers that John Titor, a man claiming to be a time traveler from 2000, has reappeared in 2010, though all evidence of the original visit has vanished and only Okabe remembers it. The following day, Moeka Kiry? seeks information on the IBN 5100 computer, which Okabe obtains from Daru. Finally, Okabe and Daru perform an experiment with a banana in their microwave, causing it to vanish and reappear in a gelled state, just as Kurisu arrives at the lab.
EP 3Okabe discovers the microwave is a time machine after a lab explosion and text rerouting incident.
Apr 20, 2011Okabe allows Kurisu to examine the microwave only if she joins the lab. Following an experimental explosion, they realize Daru had connected his phone to the device when Okabe sent a message regarding Kurisu's stabbing. This revelation leads Okabe to conclude the microwave functions as a time machine that redirected his text into the past, causing Kurisu to flee in shock. Inspired by discussions about the Large Hadron Collider and micro black holes, Okabe tasks Daru with infiltrating SERN's network. Online user Titor elaborates on theories concerning SERN's creation of a dystopian future. Upon accessing SERN's emails, Okabe and Daru uncover evidence of top-secret micro black hole experiments that resulted in multiple human fatalities.
EP 4Okabe and Kurisu seek the IBN 5100 to decrypt SERN's time travel data.
Apr 27, 2011Okabe learns from Titor that the IBN 5100 is required to decode encrypted data regarding SERN's time travel experiments, which Daru cannot decipher. He encounters Kurisu while doing laundry and mentions the computer, though she remains skeptical about the existence of time machines. Her interest is piqued when a contact verifies the IBN 5100's capabilities. Subsequently, Faris Nyannyan reveals that an IBN 5100 was donated to Ruka's family shrine. Ruka's father confirms the donation, noting the donor predicted a young man would seek it out. This information allows Okabe and Kurisu to successfully acquire the necessary computer to proceed with their decoding efforts.
EP 5Okabe and Kurisu return with the IBN 5100 while Suzuha warns Okabe about Kurisu.
May 4, 2011Okabe and Kurisu bring the IBN 5100 to the lab, where Suzuha reacts strangely to Kurisu. While Okabe gathers parts to connect the computer, Suzuha warns him to be careful around Kurisu. Daru uses the IBN 5100's unique programming language to decode SERN's encrypted files, revealing that humans were found dead in a gel-like state across different times. Kurisu explains that this condition results from matter passing through a space-time gap smaller than the matter itself, crushing it at the molecular level. After learning about SERN's experiments and their timeline implications, Okabe is shocked but vows to perfect his phone microwave before SERN can.
EP 6The group experiments with D-Mail rules while recruiting Moeka as Lab Member No. 005
May 11, 2011After naming their time-travel messages D-Mails, the team conducts further tests to understand the system's constraints. They determine the specific parameters for sending these messages, including timing, data capacity, and the maximum distance into the past. The following day, Moeka visits the lab with the intention of viewing the IBN 5100 computer and requesting to borrow it from Okabe. Unable to conceal the true purpose of their experiments from her, Okabe is forced to reveal the truth. Consequently, he officially recruits Moeka as Lab Member No. 005, integrating her into their ongoing research efforts.
EP 7Okabe tests the Phone Microwave by sending lottery numbers to the past, triggering a world line shift.
May 18, 2011Following a firmware update to the Phone Microwave, Okabe attempts to alter history by transmitting winning lottery numbers to the past. He experiences a sensation reminiscent of the satellite crash, only to find that no one else recalls the event. Investigation reveals that Ruka purchased a lottery ticket based on Okabe's advice, though he selected the wrong numbers due to a personal error. After a brief meeting with Suzuha, Okabe realizes a world line shift has occurred, creating a timeline where the experiment never happened and memories have been rewritten. Puzzled by his retained memories of the previous timeline, Okabe reaches out to Titor. Titor suggests that Okabe might possess the power to become a messiah, capable of guiding the world past the 1% Divergence point to change the dystopian future.
EP 8Okabe explains world line shifts and Moeka sends a D-Mail altering reality.
May 25, 2011Okabe clarifies to Daru and Kurisu that he alone retains memories of timeline alterations. He intends to continue experiments by having Kurisu send a D-Mail, but Moeka insists on sending it herself. This action shifts Okabe to a new world line where no one else remembers Moeka. The following day, Ruka arrives at the lab requesting a D-Mail to be born female, citing an urban myth about maternal diet influencing fetal gender. The group sends the message to Ruka's mother's pager, triggering another world line shift. Okabe notices no significant changes regarding Ruka and remains uncertain about the specific alterations in this new timeline.
EP 9Faris reveals her true identity and family history regarding the missing IBN 5100 computer.
Jun 1, 2011Okabe and Daru discuss the Phone Microwave with Faris, who becomes intrigued by the topic. Okabe later notices the IBN 5100 is missing from the lab, a loss caused by Moeka's earlier D-Mail. Kurisu explains that previous minor changes created a butterfly effect. After finding Moeka unaware of the device's location, Okabe confirms Kurisu's theory when Mayuri recalls meeting Moeka. The group visits Faris, who reveals her real name is Rumiho Akiha and that her family donated the IBN. She agrees to provide information if Okabe allows her to send a D-Mail ten years into the past. He reluctantly accepts, making her Lab Member 007. They send the remote D-Mail, triggering a world line shift. Faris's father appears, confirming he no longer has the IBN. Upon leaving, Okabe observes that Akihabara's geography and culture have fundamentally changed.
EP 10Okabe discovers timeline shifts affect Ruka's gender and pursues the missing Suzuha.
Jun 8, 2011Okabe realizes a D-Mail from Faris altered Akihabara's moe culture history, while Ruka's gender changed to female. He recruits Suzuha as a lab member after she states she will leave Tokyo if she cannot find her father by the next day. As friends prepare a farewell party and offer her a D-Mail, Okabe receives a threatening text with a photo of a gelatin treat. While shopping with Mayuri, he recalls that his ability to retain memories from previous timelines began in childhood. That night, Suzuha fails to appear, sending only a farewell message. Okabe searches the city, unaware that the satellite in the Akihabara radio building has vanished. He sends a D-Mail to himself to follow her, shifting the world line so she attends the party and remains in Tokyo.
EP 11Okabe finds a TV lifter for D-Mails while Kurisu proposes time leaps to avoid chaos theory risks.
Jun 15, 2011Okabe learns that a television in the electronics shop below the lab functions as a lifter, enabling D-Mail transmission only when powered on. Kurisu theorizes that memories can be sent back in time similarly, allowing consciousness to time leap. Okabe explains to Mayuri that time leaps are safer than D-Mails due to chaos theory unpredictability. During their outing, they encounter Moeka and Suzuha, who claims Kurisu works for SERN, a denial Kurisu makes. Kurisu also discusses her strained relationship with her father, who resents her superior scientific abilities. Okabe later receives a threatening text with a severed head image, prompting a return to the lab due to concerns for Mayuri. Daru subsequently reveals the lab was unknowingly connected to the SERN network.
EP 12Kurisu finishes time leap device while Okabe refuses use and Suzuha flees after bomb threat
Jun 22, 2011Kurisu completes her time leap machine, which compresses memories into D-mail size to send them up to two days into the past. Okabe, disturbed by threatening texts, rejects the device and suggests publicizing their findings. During a planned party, Kurisu clashes with Suzuha over her destiny as a SERN spy, but Mayuri intervenes. A televised bomb threat prompts Suzuha to flee the lab upon learning of its SERN connection. Okabe recognizes the danger when Mayuri's pocket watch stops. Armed men led by Moeka, a SERN Rounder, storm the lab. She orders Okabe, Kurisu, and Daru detained. Mayuri is shot in the head and killed because she is deemed unnecessary.
EP 13Okabe attempts multiple time leaps to prevent Mayuri's recurring deaths in the lab.
Jun 29, 2011Following Mayuri's death, Suzuha creates a distraction in the lab, enabling Kurisu to use the time leap machine to send Okabe back to 5 p.m. that same day. Okabe evacuates the lab and searches for Mayuri, during which Kurisu calls him and deduces the time leap. Upon finding her, Okabe tries to flee to the station, but trains have stopped. When Rounders approach, they attempt to escape, but Mayuri is killed again by Moeka's car. After escaping the Rounders and leaping again, Okabe finds Mayuri earlier and heads to the subway. However, she is killed once more when Yuugo's daughter, Nae, accidentally pushes her into the path of an oncoming train. Devastated by these repeated failures, Okabe vows to continue leaping into the past until he successfully saves Mayuri.
EP 14Okabe seeks to escape the Alpha World Line to save Mayuri from her inevitable death.
Jul 6, 2011After repeated failed time leaps to protect Mayuri, Okabe learns SERN targeted the lab due to their time machine. Kurisu helps him by providing trigger phrases to recruit her past self. Sent to just before the machine's completion, Okabe receives aid from Suzuha, who explains that Mayuri is doomed to die in the Alpha World Line Attractor Field. To save her, they must cross the 1% Divergence point to the Beta World Line Attractor Field. Suzuha then takes them to a crashed satellite, revealing it is a time machine and that she is John Titor from 2036.
EP 15Suzuha details SERN's rise and Okabe fixes her broken time machine to find her father.
Jul 13, 2011Suzuha reveals that SERN constructed a time machine to establish a totalitarian regime in 2036. She intended to travel to 1975 to obtain an IBN 5100 but diverted to 2010 to locate her father. Upon attempting to activate the device, she finds it broken, a consequence of the storm that interrupted Okabe previously. He time leaps two days prior to the time leap machine's completion, informing the lab members and instructing Daru to repair the equipment. Mayuri proposes using Suzuha's father's badge to aid the search. Suzuha provides Okabe with a Divergence Meter to track world line differences and explains his future role leading the resistance against SERN. After a day of searching, Suzuha thanks Okabe, who then receives a lead on her father from a badge maker.
EP 16Okabe alters timeline to save Suzuha, changing Mayuri's fate and divergence readings.
Jul 20, 2011Okabe travels back to confront the badge maker, discovering it is Daru, who created a fake badge to cheer up Suzuha. Daru explains that Suzuha’s machine only moves backward, preventing future meetings. Mayuri deduces Daru is Suzuha’s father from the machine’s name. Suzuha departs for 1975, but the Divergence Meter remains unchanged. Mr. Braun delivers a letter from 2000 revealing Suzuha’s suicide and memory loss due to machine damage. Blaming himself, Okabe sends a D-Mail to prevent stopping her, allowing her to use the undamaged machine. In the new world line, Suzuha dies of illness, leaving the meter. Okabe returns home to find Mayuri alive, noting a slight divergence shift.
EP 17Okabe and Kurisu attempt to reverse Faris's D-Mail to retrieve the IBN 5100.
Jul 27, 2011Mayuri dies one day later despite timeline changes. Okabe and Kurisu theorize that undoing previous D-Mails might restore a world line with an IBN 5100 to hack SERN. Okabe focuses on reversing Faris's D-Mail after helping her evade a rival Rai-Net gang. He shows her the former maid cafe site, triggering memories of a fake ransom note that saved her father from a fatal plane crash. Her father arrives, revealing he sold the IBN to pay the ransom. After accepting his death, Faris sends a counter D-Mail to revert Akihabara to a moe hub. However, the IBN 5100 remains out of Okabe's reach.
EP 18Okabe and Ruka navigate an awkward date while reversing D-Mail to alter fate.
Aug 3, 2011Okabe informs Ruka that she was formerly male and urges her to reverse a D-Mail to change Mayuri's fate. Ruka agrees only if Okabe takes her on a date. Despite advice from Kurisu and Daru, their evening is marked by awkward conversation. Ruka recalls her previous male existence, which distresses her because returning to that state would prevent her from pursuing feelings for Okabe. Okabe realizes the date failed because he was not being himself. He returns to the shrine where Ruka asks him to remember her as a girl. Okabe replies that she will always be his student. With their relationship repaired, Okabe sends the text, shifting the world line so Ruka is male again, leaving Moeka's D-Mail to be reversed next.
EP 19Okabe confronts Moeka regarding her suicide and the mysterious FB after failed D-Mail attempts.
Aug 10, 2011While Kurisu watches Mayuri at a doujin convention, Okabe visits Moeka’s apartment and discovers she has committed suicide. He travels back in time to prevent this, finding Moeka distressed because she has not received contact from FB, the person who ordered her to find the IBN. Okabe steals her phone to send a D-Mail, but the timeline remains unchanged, revealing that Moeka lied about the message’s content in the previous world line. After confronting her about FB and her future death, Okabe locates the text containing the IBN 5100’s location. Even annulling it with another D-Mail fails to shift the world line. Realizing he must use FB’s phone, Okabe faces Moeka’s betrayal, which ultimately leads her to reveal the IBN 5100’s location to him.
EP 20Okabe and Moeka track the IBN 5100 to France while confronting Mr. Braun who reveals his identity as FB.
Aug 17, 2011Although Okabe knows the IBN 5100's location, Kurisu advises against stealing it, suggesting they instead stake out the area to locate FB. Moeka joins Okabe for the surveillance. They follow the computer as it is passed among several individuals, including Mr. Braun, before it is transported on a plane to a SERN laboratory in France. The trio confronts Mr. Braun, who admits to being FB and a Rounder coerced into acting to protect Nae. He then kills Moeka before committing suicide. Using Braun's phone, Okabe cancels Moeka's D-Mail, shifting to a world line where both Moeka and Braun survive, allowing him to retrieve the IBN at the shrine. Okabe then tasks Daru with hacking the SERN network to erase their data, only to realize this action would require returning to a world line where Kurisu is dead.
EP 21Okabe tries to save Mayuri without causing Kurisu's death in the Beta world line
Aug 24, 2011Refusing to accept a timeline where Kurisu dies, Okabe halts his hacking efforts. He accompanies Mayuri to a comic market, struggling to find a method to save her without triggering the Beta world line where Kurisu is stabbed. When a car approaches during Mayuri’s destined time of death, Okabe attempts to sacrifice himself, but Mayuri pushes him aside and dies instead. After time leaping, Kurisu forces Okabe to confess that she dies in the Beta world line. Okabe later finds Mayuri at her grandmother’s grave, where he overhears her mentioning dreams of her previous deaths and her awareness of his suffering. Meanwhile, Kurisu visits the specific location where she is fated to die in the Beta world line.
EP 22Kurisu recalls stabbing dreams and Okabe chooses Mayuri before shifting to Beta world line
Aug 31, 2011Kurisu discloses to Okabe that she remembers her stabbing from dreams alongside his repeated efforts to save Mayuri. Although she advises him to prioritize Mayuri’s life, Okabe refuses and returns to the lab to attempt another time leap. Kurisu intervenes, fearing that witnessing Mayuri’s death repeatedly will break his mind. Okabe eventually agrees to save Mayuri and confesses his love, prompting Kurisu to kiss him. The following day, Kurisu prepares to return to America while Okabe and the others erase their data from the SERN network. Just after deletion, Kurisu returns to the lab to confess her love, but Okabe shifts back to the Beta world line before she can finish. After destroying the Phone Microwave, Okabe receives a call from an alternate Suzuha warning him to prevent World War III.
EP 23Suzuha guides Okabe to prevent Kurisu's death in a world line free of World War III.
Sep 7, 2011On the roof where Kurisu died, Suzuha explains her mission to reach the Steins Gate world line, where World War III is avoided. Okabe reluctantly travels back in time with her to the moment before Kurisu's death. He witnesses the events unfold, encountering Kurisu and hiding in the room where she is stabbed. There, she meets her father, Doctor Nakabachi, who tries to steal her time travel theory. Okabe attempts to save her but accidentally stabs her himself, allowing Nakabachi to escape with the theory to Russia, leading to an arms race and World War III. Back in the present, Okabe despairs and refuses Suzuha's offer to try again. Mayuri slaps him, reminding him not to give up. Suzuha reveals the first attempt was meant to fail so Okabe could view a scrambled video message from his future self, which explains how to save Kurisu without causing a paradox.
EP 24Okabe uses a gadget to save Kurisu, then meets her in Akihabara
Sep 14, 2011Okabe and Suzuha travel back to retrieve liquid from a Future Gadget to replace Kurisu’s blood. Okabe secures a metal toy from Mayuri to prevent Nakabachi’s paper from burning. When the gadget’s liquid is dry, Okabe allows Nakabachi to stab him and tases Kurisu. He uses his own blood to recreate the scene, letting Nakabachi escape with the theory. Suzuha thanks him and vanishes because she does not yet exist in this world line. After recovering, Okabe distributes badges to lab members recruited in other timelines, reserving one for Suzuha, who will be born in seven years. Walking in Akihabara, he reflects on his time with Kurisu and accepts that she may not remember their shared past. Kurisu then appears, thanking him for saving her life. Noting she retains memories of alternate world lines, Okabe accepts this encounter as part of the Steins Gate world line.
