After his mother dies, high school student Kousaku Sakamoto travels to Tokyo to live with Ibari Oozora, a yakuza boss. He initially plans to leave but stays after meeting Ibari’s four children: Tsugumi, Tsubame, Hibari, and Suzume. Kousaku is surprised to discover that Hibari, who appears and acts as a girl, was assigned male at birth. The following day, Kousaku enrolls in the same school as Hibari and Tsubame, where classmates believe Hibari is female. In their shared class, a student named Makoto Shiina develops an immediate dislike for Kousaku due to his perceived closeness to Hibari. Shiina provokes Kousaku and throws a punch, but Hibari retaliates by punching Shiina shortly afterward.
