May 20, 1983After his mother dies, high school student Kousaku Sakamoto travels to Tokyo to live with Ibari Oozora, a yakuza boss. He initially plans to leave but stays after meeting Ibari’s four children: Tsugumi, Tsubame, Hibari, and Suzume. Kousaku is surprised to discover that Hibari, who appears and acts as a girl, was assigned male at birth. The following day, Kousaku enrolls in the same school as Hibari and Tsubame, where classmates believe Hibari is female. In their shared class, a student named Makoto Shiina develops an immediate dislike for Kousaku due to his perceived closeness to Hibari. Shiina provokes Kousaku and throws a punch, but Hibari retaliates by punching Shiina shortly afterward.

Following this incident, Suzume defeats Ibari in a duel and demands the position of Chief Detective to ensure his safety.

Nov 4, 1983The Kurikara Detective Agency travels to Monkey Island to solve a mystery after a passenger is murdered on the flight. Hibari persuades detectives Kuroda and Aota to allow the Ōzora family to assist. Suzume reveals the victim is alive and playing a prank. Upon arrival, the group learns Mayor Yukiyo’s daughter has vanished, alongside her sisters Hanayo and Hoshiyo, due to fears of a Demon Monkey. They capture a masked man, who is actually Kaji stalking Tsubame. An earthquake destroys the island, releasing the Demon Monkey, who returns the girls and defeats the Demon Crab, Demon Bee, and Demon Pepper Grinder. The Ōzora family then sails back to Japan on a wooden raft.
