Sixteen-year-old Mei Tachibana abandons her goal of making friends in high school following a traumatic experience. Yamato Kurosawa, the most popular boy, pursues her friendship despite her rejections and an accidental kick. His actions anger his female followers. While walking home from a part-time job, Mei is followed by a stalker. She hides in a convenience store and calls Yamato, who leaves karaoke to help. He scares off the stalker by pretending to be her boyfriend, using the phrase "I love you," which results in Mei's first kiss.
