Yamato accompanies Mei to a hair salon, turning the errand into a date. They encounter Aiko Mutou and her boyfriend Masashi Tachikawa, who invite them to a bowling alley. Aiko, harboring feelings for Yamato after her ex cheated, questions why he is interested in Mei. Aiko attempts to persuade Mei to stay away from Yamato, but he follows Mei anyway. Yamato later reveals his middle school past, admitting he struggled to connect with others, including a bullied best friend. Mei advises him to trust people to maintain friendships. Consequently, Mei cancels her salon visit, realizing trust helps understand others. Meanwhile, Aiko remains interested in Yamato despite spending time with Masashi at a love hotel.
