Naofumi shields Melty from attacking Knights who falsely accuse him of kidnapping her. He discovers a pendant belonging to a guard of the Church of Three Heroes, an organization hostile to the Shield. Meanwhile, wizards at the Royal Palace alter recordings to frame Naofumi as a fugitive, spreading this narrative across the land. Unable to reach Shieldfreeden, Naofumi decides to protect Melty so she can resolve their predicament, leading them toward Siltvelt via the mountains. Their journey is tracked by the Queen’s emissaries. A loose rock alerts nearby guards, leading to an encounter with the other three Heroes. Melty explains the situation, but Myne arrives, ordering the Heroes to ignore her and claiming Naofumi uses a brainwashing shield power. The Heroes believe Myne and demand Melty’s return. Knowing Myne intends to kill her, Melty refuses, prompting Naofumi to attempt fleeing with her and his party.
