Inaba loses a key fortune, which Shinobu, Lum, and Ataru use to enter a space of doors. They step through one and arrive in a future where Ataru is with Shinobu, while Lum is inexplicably paired with Rei. Inaba explains that these are multiple possible futures, including one where Ran ends up with Rei and Lum with Shutarō. After viewing an unexplained apocalyptic future, Inaba reveals they can craft doorknobs to create new timelines. The trio attempts to build their ideal future, but Lum’s doorknob melts. Ataru experiences a harem future, yet Future Lum abandons him due to his poor treatment, leading Ataru to realize he lost Lum. Eventually, Ataru and Lum find a timeline where they are together.
