College student Hayakawa notices his friend Irie suffering from severe insomnia that medication cannot cure. When Hayakawa suggests counting sheep to help, Irie reacts with anger, citing a fear of the 44th Sheep before storming off. Curious, Hayakawa attempts the exercise himself and reaches the number 44 just as he receives a frantic, cut-off call from Irie claiming the entity has arrived. Despite repeated attempts to reconnect, Irie remains unreachable. The following morning, Hayakawa confronts Irie, who warns that the 44th Sheep is now targeting him. As Hayakawa demands answers, Irie vanishes, leaving him to discover that his friend has been missing. That night, Hayakawa hears Irie’s voice counting sheep and witnesses a spectral ram. Although the count reaches 44 without incident, his relief is short-lived as his eye transforms into that of a sheep.
