Matsuda attempts to arrange a meeting with Yawara, but she rejects his advances. A colleague delivers a message for a rendezvous on Christmas Eve, which conflicts with her plans to date Shinnosuke. Jigoro’s strategy of displaying Sayaka’s tournament victories on Yawara’s wall fails to inspire her. Instead, Yawara discovers Matsuda’s articles left by Jigoro and becomes touched by his dedicated advocacy. She cancels her date with Shinnosuke to meet Matsuda at a café, only to find it closed. As she departs by bus, Matsuda chases after her. Yawara announces her intention to resume judo, while Matsuda declares he will continue his work in journalism.
