Arakita leads his team until exhaustion forces him to drop out. Sohoku holds a 6–5 advantage but Izumida launches a final sprint, extending his lead before collapsing from fatigue. The first-year runners beg their seniors to let them quit, but Kinjou refuses. He insists their final order is to escort the team to the mountains. Kinjou explains that the group will split into two once they reach that destination. Until then, the first-years must continue learning from their seniors despite their physical limits and desire to stop.
