During the Day 3 mountain stage, Hakone deploys Manami, Toudou, and Fukutomi to the summit. Captain Kinjou struggles with leg pain as Makishima attempts to follow. Onoda intervenes, prompting Kinjou to accept he need not be the sole ace. He formulates an immediate plan, sending Onoda, Imazumi, and Naruko with Makishima under two conditions: Naruko must display flair, and one rider must secure the jersey. Kinjou is forced to withdraw. Onoda leads initially, but Naruko takes the front to demonstrate his sprint climbing. Meanwhile, Tadokoro informs Shinkai that their red spring bean remains the most dangerous teammate, as he has not yet revealed his full sprinting potential, which could occur on the final climb.
