Koenma informs Yusuke that he is a spirit detective tasked with defending the Living World using his unique abilities. He receives a mission to recover three artifacts stolen by master thieves from the Spirit World. Yusuke confronts Gouki, the first thief, who holds the Orb of Baast. This artifact allows the user to steal human souls, particularly those of children. Gouki demonstrates superior strength compared to Yusuke and threatens to eat him alive.
